Also, Civ6 shipped the SDK late and functionally incomplete.įinally I would take issue that Civ5's release pattern is a good model to follow.

Cross-platform is broken (though, on Civ5 that was primarily just Windows + Mac - Linux came 4 years later). Despite that, at least in my opinion, Civ6 feels like it was more unfinished from Day 1 than Civ5 does. The value proposition Civ6 makes is primarily on paper - they can correctly claim parity with Civ5's releases on user-facing stuff. Forcing users to exploit a Tribal Village manually to make them aware of the context is a user interface/attention management problem, not an automation problem. Game developers taking their eye off the ball it's not about what you can get the player to do, but why they should care about doing any of it. while retaining automation features to reduce late-game grind. Also probably a side-effect of the game being marketed towards casual gamers, even on Deity.Ĭiv6 continues the franchise trend of removing automation to force more micromanagement - arguably so that you would have better immersion - instead of. Again, maybe, this is a side-effect of them deferring major gameplay mechanics for expansions. But it feels like an obviously bigger step back here. Also - as many have noted - AI took a step backwards, as it did in Civ5 base release. Perhaps that is an artifact of Firaxis deferring a pacing-related mechanic (Ages) for an expansion. However Civ6 feels paced wrong, and overall the endgame is less satisfying. Qualitatively (my opinions), some aspects of empire building feel better in Civ6. If R&F is analogous to G&K, and ostensibly there will be one more expansion to follow R&F (though I don't know if 2K has said so). There is quantitative parity between the two games in the first year, with Civ6 putting slightly more into DLCs than the base game. CivBE-style Espionage (including Hidden Agendas) Builders + Military Engineers (replacing Workers)

Diplomatic Victory changes to a World Congress vote Research Agreements (replacing tech trading) Social Policy trees (replaces Government) Major mechanics (just gameplay features, not all features) introduced: I didn't do a count of static maps, buildings, resources, tile improvements or city-states. If you are on the fence, V might the cheaper option, and it will keep you busy until VI has more expansions and has proven (or failed to prove) itself. I guess eventually it's all about whether you can live with VI's shortcomings or not. VI is not without its problems, some of which are glaring, but in general I love the game. I played quite some Civ V (guessing between 800-1000 hours) and am an avid VI player since launch. However, there are those that consider Civ VI to be a very good game, some say it's better than V. You sure get a lot of content for your credits. Yes, currently Civ V might be better value for money. So for Civ VI they are doing exactly the same as for Civ V, yet for some reason people hail Civ V and not VI. They then released multiple smaller DLCs, followed by two expansions each costing 30 credits (pounds, dollars, euros, etc.) at release. Civ V at launch had the same issues as, if not more than, Civ VI at launch. There will be few more games besides Civ6, and some of those might be good, right? However, humble monthly isnt that costly, so probably its worth 12$.

So, i'd say don't purchase Civ6 until there will be at least few Expansion-size DLCs (not just "good news, everyone! you can pay 5$ to play as Australia now!") and major discounts.

Devs stole money-milking strategy from EA: they release demo at price of AAA-project and, like, "you gotta pay x20 times more to get full version". And Civ5 with all and everything isnt just better and fuller than Civ6 in current condition, but also is cheaper than Civ6. Rise and Fall alone costs about half of base game. People say that DLCs will fix that, and theres soon Rise and Fall coming, but. It feels like base The Sims without any DLCs. Originally posted by lonenaco:Stay on Civ5.
